Today was the day we would set off on Route 66, so we travelled into Chicago to have breakfast at a Chicago icon located at the start of Route 66. The famous Lou Mitchell’s diner.
We found parking about 100 metres from the diner in what was a the time a vacant lot.
This section of Route 66 through Illinios is great, the old alignments, the old service stations and towns show a time gone by when this road was “king”.
The distance we covered today was around 167 miles or 268km. This is one of the best parts of Route 66, you can still see the remains of the old concrete roadway, service stations and diners.
We made it to Pontiac around lunchtime and stopped for the first of many feeds. The Pontiac Oakland Automobile Museum is a great place to visit. From there we continued our journey south to Lincoln where we stopped at the Super 8 in Lincoln for the night.
