Day 20
With our journey approaching it’s end we still had things to do and see in and around Santa Monica. Today would see us visit Santa Monica Pier and go to Dodgers Stadium to see the LA Dodgers play the Milwaukee Brewers.
It was a wonderful relaxing day and good to not be riding for a day. Also a great time to get some laundry done. The motel was rather busy and the breakfast queue was long. Not a complaint, more an observation as this was the first time in the whole trip we had seen the breakfast area so busy.
A bus ride down the Santa Monica Pier and some wandering around followed by a walk back to our motel and lunch at the nearby McDonalds. Seen us planning how to get to the baseball. In the end we got an Uber for around $30.00 USD. Crazy price considering it was over 1 hour in LA traffic to go about 23km (13 mile). The baseball didn’t overly impress us, I guess we expected a lot more from a Major League game.
Day 21
Second last day in the USA, so we jumped on the bike for some sightseeing in and around Los Angeles. We ventured our way to the Griffith Observatory, Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the official end of Route 66 in California at the corner of Lincoln and Olympic Boulevards in Santa Monica.
Day 22
Our last day of being on the bike and we ventured down to Long Bache on the 405 to check out the Queen Mary and Iowa battleship.
Traffic in Los Angeles is always a bit crazy and when not grid locked fast moving. We were not fans of being on the 405 for the ride down to Long Beach. We were sitting around 80-90mph, I think any slower we would have gotten run over. Definitely not a fan of that bit of road.
Once at Long Beach it was fairly easy to navigate to both ships and both are well worth the visit. At the Queen Mary we opted to do a wander around without the tour. Out of the 2 ships my favourite was the Battleship Iowa. Mrs Thirsty also liked the Iowa more.
Once all of our touristy tripping was done it was a quick ride up to Malibu and then it was time to drop off the Harley off and get an Uber to the airport.
Homeward Bound
Well after 22 days touring Route 66 and some other side trips it was time to head home. We were thankful we won the upgrade bis for Business class with Virgin Australia. Doing so got us into the Emirates Lounge for a few hours before our flight. The food and level of service was amazing.
