Today we would enter the “Lone Star” state crossing over into Texas via Texola.
Our first stop was the National Route 66 and Transportation Museum in Elk City, Oklahoma. We were there earlt in the morning so we took a wander around and checked out the buildings and the displays in the windows.
With the intersate bypassing the towns of Route 66 there isn’t much to see as you travel through some parts of the old route.
We did stop at the border for a photo and also at an old Phillips 66 service station at McLean.
As we were ‘wining’ it for motels we pulled up at nearly the end of Amarillo and stayed at the Red Roof Inn in Amarillo West.
After checking in we discovered that these was a free limousine service to the Big Texan Steak House. so once we were refreshed we headed off for some cold beers and a feed.
