Today sees us begin a shorter tour down south. Our destination today is Goondiwindi and once again we will be staying at the McIntyre Motor Inn. Unlike last year this year’s trip would be a straight run without any deviations or side tours.

I like visiting Goondiwindi, being on the Queensland border makes it an interesting location. Possibly its biggest claim to fame is its most famous resident being a thoroughbred racehorse named Gunsynd. Also known as “The Goondiwindi Grey”.

We ventured off in the pre-dawn with plans to stop in and visit some old friends at Chinchilla.

Our first stop was McDonalds in Rockhampton for a morning coffee. They had no oat or almond milk so we both went the dairy option. After not drinking coffee with cow’s milk for a few years it certainly gave the coffee an odd taste for our palettes.

It was rather ‘fresh’ once we got out past Westwood with the car indicating the outside temperature was between 1-4 degrees. No issue for us in the cabin. We decided to stop at Theodore for something to eat. The café at little to offer, It could be because it was a Saturday morning, We decided to keep travelling and ended up getting something from the ‘hot box’ at the Ampol service station in Taroom. Mine was a rather disappointing sausage roll which had probably sat there for a day or two based on the taste. The weather was still rather cool, so we were soon back in the car and on the road.

Arriving at Chinchilla we caught up with our friends and stayed with them for lunch. After food and great conversation, it was time to hit the road again. We made good time to Goondiwindi and were soon checked into our motel. So, we wandered down to the Victoria Hotel for a beer and maybe dinner. It was ‘happy hour’ so we managed to drink 3 schooners in 30 minutes before deciding to go back to one of the local Chinese restaurants the New Dynasty Restaurant in McLean Street

We had visited the New Dynasty Restaurant about 8 years ago and the food and service was the same high quality we experienced last time.

We had visited previously. Their 2 person banquet is amazing. Now we were both well sated it was time to lay our heads down and sleep the night away.

After eating our way through the 2 person banquet once again it was a short stroll to the Macintyre Motor Inn, our go to motel when visiting Goondiwindi.
