A Cracking Little Country Pub… Even If the Weather Was Having Other Ideas! 🍻

There’s something special about discovering a great little country pub while touring around Australia. Friendly service, a decent feed, a cold beer and somewhere comfortable to spend the night. What more could you ask for?
Well, perhaps some better weather when you’re touring on a Harley trike! But you can’t have everything. 😂
The Dog and Bull is a beautiful little country hotel in northern NSW, and it turned out to be a real winner during our travels through Bonalbo.
🛏️ Comfortable accommodation
We booked into the motel section behind the pub, which provided a clean and tidy room for the night.
It’s a convenient arrangement, giving you a comfortable place to stay while keeping the pub just a short wander away. No need to jump back on the trike to find somewhere for dinner, and certainly no need to worry about who’s driving!
🍕 Good food, good service and a local brew
Of course, being The Thirsty Tourists, we weren’t going to stop at checking out the accommodation. The pub itself needed a proper investigation!
We settled in for dinner and enjoyed a pizza, which went down nicely after a day on the road. The food was great, the service was excellent, and we also took the opportunity to try the Dog and Bull mid-strength lager.
It’s always good to sample something local when you’re travelling, especially when the pub has its own brew to put on the tasting list.
The Dog and Bull delivered on all fronts, with the friendly service and good food making the visit even more enjoyable.
The only thing that wasn’t cooperating was the weather. Our Harley trike tour had been dealing with conditions that were considerably less inviting than the pub’s hospitality!
Still, a comfortable room, a good meal and a cold beer can go a long way towards improving the mood after a rough day on the road.

The Dog and Bull is exactly the sort of country pub we love discovering on our travels. The motel accommodation was clean and tidy, the food was great, the service was excellent, and the mid-strength lager was well worth trying.
It’s a great little place to stop, enjoy some country hospitality and spend the night without having to venture elsewhere for dinner.
Would we return? Absolutely! We’d happily visit and stay again one day.
🍻 The Thirsty Tourists tip: If you’re touring through northern NSW, consider making Bonalbo a stop on your itinerary. The Dog and Bull is worth checking out for a meal, a drink or an overnight stay.
And if you’re travelling on a motorcycle or trike, hopefully you’ll have better weather than we did!
