Today we journeyed from Illinois to Missouri. A shorter journey of around 161 mile (256Km). Having already ridden the pre and post 1930 alignments the day before we chose to head straight to Missouri on the post 1930 alignment with no stops until the Chain of Rocks Bridge.

Our destination for the day was the city of Eureka just past St. Louis. With a stop at the iconic Ted Drewes Frozen Custard.

The old Chain of Rocks Bridge crosses over the Mississippi River on the north outskirts of St. Louis, Missouri. It was constructed in 1929 and it’s notable feature is the 22° bend occurring near the middle of the bridge.

No longer used for road traffic it now has a walking and biking trail across it. If you are doing Route 66 this is a stop worth making.

Ted Drewes Frozen Custard company that was founded by Ted Drewes, Sr. in 1929. We visited the two locations, one on Chippewa Street location being on Route 66).Their signature serving  of frozen custard so thick you can turn it upside down.

We thought the place was fairly busy with lines maybe 5-6 people deep, after talking to some locals they told us it was a quiet day.

Leaving Ted Drewes we navigated our way to another Harley-Davidson delaership. This one being St. Charles Harley-Davidson to get another tee shirt for my collection. Then it was on to our motel, we stayed at the Super 8 Eureka/Six Flags at Eureka, MO. For dinner it was  short stroll to the local Denny’s.
