The Rocks, Sydney – Good Views, Great Pubs and a Two-Litre Beer Tube!

Once again, we found ourselves heading down to Sydney’s The Rocks, one of our favourite destinations in Australia. And really, who can blame us? You’ve got Circular Quay, the iconic Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and enough pubs to keep The Thirsty Tourists happily occupied for days!

It’s a place that combines sightseeing, history and cold beverages rather nicely. Funny how we keep finding excuses to return! 🍻

Our Home Away from Home

When visiting The Rocks, we usually stay at The Rendezvous.

It’s a great base for exploring the area, and once we’ve checked in, we generally leave the transport arrangements behind and rely on our own two feet.

Well, that and the occasional ferry!

The Important Business – Pubs!

The Rocks has no shortage of places to grab a feed or a cold ale. Some of our regular haunts include:

Of course, we don’t spend every waking moment in a pub. Occasionally, we even venture out to see the sights!

We love walking around The Rocks and beyond, whether it’s heading over to Darling Harbour, wandering through the Royal Botanic Gardens, checking out the Opera House or simply exploring the streets before finding another watering hole.

It’s a tough itinerary, but somebody has to do it!

The Two-Litre Discovery 🍺

Now, on one of our visits to Munich Brauhaus, we made a rather important discovery.

They serve beer in two-litre beer tubes!

Yes, you read that correctly. Two litres!

Suddenly, our usual pub visit had been upgraded to a much more substantial affair. Needless to say, once we’d discovered these beauties, there was no going back. Every subsequent visit saw us ordering a beer tube, settling in and relaxing while the world carried on around us.

Some people collect souvenirs when they travel. We seem to collect memories involving increasingly large beer containers!

Catching the Ferry to Manly

On this year’s visit, we decided to jump on the ferry across to Manly.

It was a lot busier than I expected, but it was well worth the trip. The ferry ride itself is a great way to enjoy the harbour scenery, and Manly has plenty to offer once you arrive.

There are some good pubs where you can grab a feed and a cold ale, making it another destination worth adding to the itinerary.

Just remember, if you’re planning to catch the ferry back, keep an eye on the timetable. You don’t want to discover you’ve accidentally turned a day trip into an overnight adventure!

Why We Keep Coming Back

The Rocks certainly isn’t the cheapest place to stay, but there’s something about it that keeps drawing us back.

The harbour views, the historic streets, the fantastic atmosphere and the abundance of pubs make it a brilliant place to spend a few days.

Add in a ferry trip to Manly and a couple of two-litre beer tubes, and you’ve got the makings of another memorable Sydney adventure.

We’ll no doubt be back again. After all, there are still plenty of pubs to visit, beers to sample and memories to make.

The Rocks, Sydney: great sightseeing by day and great pub research whenever the opportunity arises!
