ABCs of Touring – An Overnight Adventure to Clermont
With our HOG (Harley Owners Group) ABCs of Touring challenge underway, we decided it was time to saddle up the trusty TriGlide and head off on an overnight adventure to Clermont in Central Queensland.
After all, ticking off the ABCs is a great excuse to get out on the road, explore somewhere new and, naturally, find a few places to stop for refreshments along the way. It’s all about the journey, isn’t it? 🍻🏍️

Clermont is a terrific country town with plenty of history and character, making it well worth a visit. Rather than rushing through on a day trip, we decided to book ourselves into a motel and stay overnight.
That way, we could take our time exploring the town without watching the clock or worrying about getting home before dark.
And let’s face it, an overnight stay also means there’s more opportunity to enjoy a proper pub feed and a cold beverage before calling it a day!
So, with another destination added to our touring adventures, it was time to hit the road and see what Clermont had in store for The Thirsty Tourists.
Clermont – A Good Motel, Cold Beers and a Chilli Pizza!
For our overnight stay in Clermont, we booked into Smart Stayzzz Inns Clermont, which, as far as we knew at the time, was the newest motel in town.
Being a country town, one of the bonuses was that we were only a short stroll from any of Clermont’s hotels. Now that’s what I call convenient accommodation! No need to worry about jumping back on the bike when there are cold beers waiting within walking distance. 🍻
Our Favourite Clermont Watering Hole
Our preferred stop was the Commercial Hotel Clermont.
It’s a great spot to settle in on a Saturday afternoon, kick back with a cold beer and let the worries of the world disappear for a while.
And then there’s the food!
The chilli pizza was a real winner. It had just enough heat to get the taste buds tingling without setting off the fire brigade. 🌶️🍕
It’s always good to find a country pub where you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, a decent feed and a refreshing beverage after a day on the road.
Enjoying the Ride
The trip to Clermont also delivered some great scenery along the Peak Downs Highway, particularly once we passed the Moranbah turn-off.
It’s a reminder that touring isn’t just about reaching the destination. Sometimes the best parts are the roads you travel, the scenery along the way and the little country towns you discover.
With a comfortable motel, a favourite pub and a cracking chilli pizza, Clermont certainly gave us plenty of reasons to enjoy our overnight stay.
Another ride, another town and another excuse to get out exploring. That’s what the ABCs of Touring are all about!
