Country Pubs 💕🍻🍺
If you’re looking for a good old-fashioned country pub, the Pioneer Arms Hotel in Goombungee is well worth putting on your touring itinerary.
We’ve visited a few times now, and it’s becoming one of those reliable little destinations that keeps drawing us back. There’s a welcoming country-pub atmosphere, a good selection of food and, from our experience, some excellent pizzas.
The Pioneer Arms has a bit of history behind it too. Established in 1897, it was the first hotel in Goombungee and is now the only survivor of the four hotels that once served the town. That’s a fair bit of history for one pub to carry!
The hotel has a traditional public bar, dining area and beer garden, making it a handy spot to settle in and enjoy a relaxed country-town visit.
Goombungee itself is a lovely little Darling Downs town, about 35–40 kilometres north of Toowoomba. There’s plenty of rural charm, historic character and interesting little places to explore.
For us, it’s another reminder that you don’t always need to travel hundreds of kilometres to find a worthwhile touring destination. Sometimes the best discoveries are right on your doorstep.
We’ll happily put the Pioneer Arms on our list of places worth revisiting. After all, a good country pub and a decent feed are hard to argue with!
