If there’s one thing we enjoy almost as much as discovering a good country pub, it’s finding a restaurant worth returning to. And West Lake Restaurant in Melbourne’s Chinatown has certainly earned its place on that list!

We’ve dined here on visits to Melbourne in 2023, 2025 and 2026, so clearly they’ve been doing something right. Either that or we’re developing a rather serious attachment to their menu! 😂

Located on Little Bourke Street in the heart of Chinatown, Westlake has become one of our regular go-to spots whenever we’re in Melbourne, whether we’re looking for lunch or dinner.

Our recommendation? The Banquet for Two.

Now, it’s absolutely delicious and offers a fantastic selection of dishes. The variety and flavours are amazing, and there’s certainly no shortage of food.

It’s so filling that you’ll probably be wondering why you thought ordering anything extra was a good idea!

When I say it’s to die for, I should probably clarify that it’s not literally worth dying for. Although, after working your way through the banquet, you might need a little lie-down! 😂

We love coming back here, and it’s become one of those Melbourne dining favourites that we make a point of including in our trips.

Our verdict: Fantastic food, generous servings and a banquet that’s well worth trying. Three visits across three different years tells you we’re pretty happy with this place.

Westlake is definitely on our Melbourne return list. Just remember to arrive hungry – very hungry!
