So it begins

Project AntJan is the development of a MY21 NX Pajero GLS into an offroad tourer.

This project is the result of a couple of things, the first was lifestyle changes and the second is the used car prices of the Holden Commodore VFII SSV.

A few years ago we spent most of our time touring on a motorcycle. Due to a medical diagnosis touring on the bike isn’t something we can keep doing. This led to doing more touring in one of our cars. Recently the crazy prices being asked for the VFII SSV Commodore has made me want to drive it less. So it was decided the SSV would be used as a weekend driver and a daily driver would be needed.

Some of the vehicles we considered were a new hybrid Corolla, a used Ford Focus RS Mk2 and a new NX Pajero. My heart was leaning towards the Focus RS, my head won though and it was decided that the Pajero would fill the role of a daily driver and holiday tourer.

The Pajero is soon to cease production and it is basically the same car that came out in 2006. One selling point was the the Pajero is eligible for a 10-year/200,000km warranty if serviced at an approved dealership, otherwise the warranty period is halved to five years/100,000km.

It is an older platform that has been proven over its long run, compared to the Toyota Prado if offers great bang for buck. So this is planned to be a tourer that sees long term ownership.

Some of the planned mods are below, I need to read a lot of reviews as to what mod is best suited for how we want to use it.

Hopefully I’ll continue to blog this as the Pajero evolves into what we want from an off road tourer.
