After a good night’s rest we were up and ready to kick off our adventure. First up was a trip into Chicago for breakfast at Lou Mitchell’s they have been serving breakfasts for over 100 years. It is a ‘must do’ when you begin your Route 66 journey from Chicago.

It was also a great time to get a photo of the beginning / end of Route 66 signage.

With our bellies full it was time to get an Uber to Eagle Rider to pick up our hired Harley Davidson Ultra Limited. As we were also doing the ABC’s of Touring as part of the Harley Owners Group a ride to Michigan was in order. By doing so we added the borders of Illinois, Indiana and Michigan to our list of completed locations.

By the time we collected the bike and got riding it was going to be lunch time so a visit to the Stray Dog Bar and Grill in New Buffalo, Michigan was planned.

From there is was a return run back to the Econolodge at Willowbrook via Illinois Harley-Davidson and in the evening another visit to the Kerry Piper and also Del Rhea’s Chicken Basket. Del Rhea’s Chicken Basket is another Route 66 icon Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket that had its humble beginnings sometime in the late 1930s or early 1940s as an old gas station lunch counter.
