Check-in was painless, a lot better experience than last year. We got to sit in the Singapore Airlines Lounge due to the upgrade to Business Class. As to Business Class I can only say, wow. Business Class is something else and it was a fantastic experience. No matter which class you fly though it’s a long flight, we were glad to disembark in LA.

For anyone who has been the the U.S.A. before you would know it can be a long slow process going through immigration and Homeland Security. This year it was very fast and we then waited for ages to get our bags. Someone forgot to unload the premium baggage first.

After we were officially in the U.S.A. we made our way up the Terminal 4 to catch our next flight across to Chicago. Flying domestically in the U.S.A. is very different from doing it in Australia, maybe it’s just the volume of people flying everyday that makes it seem more dismal. We’ve never flown with American Airlines before so I wasn’t sure what to expect, I think I prefer to fly with Delta. We had to pay extra for baggage and the flight was a little delayed and it was also fully booked.

Well after 26 hours of airports and flights we were in Chicago, we got a taxi from the airport to our hotel in Willowbrook. I was thinking the taxi driver duded us with some bullshit story about zones and penalty rate, lazy bloke didn’t even help load or unload the car. So we’re going to be Ubering it around now my phone connection is sorted.

When booking accomodation one thing I try and ensure is that the motel is walking distance to any dining establishments. The Econo Lodge Willowbrook is a short walk to a Denny’s, The Kerry Piper and Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket.

The motel couldn’t find our booking despite us making the booking over 9 months ago on Booking.com. Thankfully they had a room and honoured the quote we had when we booked.

For dinner we opted to go to The Kerry Piper if you are ever in the greater Chicago area this place is worth a visit. They do “Thirsty Thursday’s” and we availed ourselves of their $4 pints. Their “Pub Burger” is one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Mind you that could be the pints and jet lag talking.
